Every year about this time, we see something that puts all the animals on high alert. The dog is anxious.
The geese stand in a group in the center of the barnyard honking their concern.
The goats rush up from pasture.
They take shelter in the buildings and look at me like I should be doing something to protect them.
Can you see what has them all on such high alert?
The crop dusters are flying all over right now.
I’m not sure why with this drought, but I do like the optimism it shows.

I’m assuming they’re spraying herbicides? Or is it pesticides? I guess weeds grow in any condition, no matter how dry. You got some great shots…of the animals and the plane!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 16:12:05
At this point the corn is in deep trouble if they are still spraying herbicides. According to my nephew most of it is fungicide, which is why I don’t get it. That would require moisture. West of here they are spraying pesticides for Japanese beetles, but they aren’t a problem around here yet.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 21:42:47
Yes, I guess I should’ve thought about how late it is to be spraying herbicides..(wasn’t thinking like a farmer at all on that one!
But I agree…fungicide when it’s been so dry? I guess they must know something we don’t. The corn looks great, by the way!

We still have a chance for something to harvest, but we need rain so badly. None in the seven day forecast.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 16:36:04
you really had me going there. i was wondering? did not know whether to be nervous or scared. great views. (:
Jul 20, 2012 @ 16:48:08
Usually we don’t have too much to be truly concerned with. The crop dusters always make the animals nervous though.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 17:42:34
Great shot how your camera caught the spray on that one picture. Also love the look on Millie’s face that you captured.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 17:56:09
I do love my camera! Millie cracks me up~like I can control the world. Hmmm….that’s not a bad idea.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 18:25:54
I love airplane photos. I feel bad, we just had a nice rain this morning. Wish I could send some your way. – Margy
Jul 20, 2012 @ 21:13:45
I do always look forward to taking the pictures of the airplanes.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 19:44:53
That shot of Millie is just priceless!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 21:10:50
Thanks. She is quite expressive.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 19:52:46
Oooo thats too funny!!!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 21:11:42
It does freak them out. It gets scary close.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 19:52:49
wow. i remember your posts from last year. time has flown like that crop duster!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 21:12:00
It is amazing how quickly time flies. Even more so as I get older!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 20:20:33
LOL, Teresa…..you had me going there for a moment!
Pam
Jul 20, 2012 @ 21:12:42
Well, the animals were seriously concerned!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 21:18:49
That shot of Millie stole my heart. Awww! I thought you were going to reveal some predator, like a coyote or something. You got me!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 21:23:26
I wouldn’t be very nice in a post about a coyote. Just the annual scary planes.
Jul 21, 2012 @ 01:28:20
Gosh, he does fly low doesn’t he? Think I would be on high alert myself!
Jul 21, 2012 @ 08:33:30
It seems like every year we hear about one or two that end up crashing. It would be a very scary job.
Jul 21, 2012 @ 02:56:28
Whatever they are spraying you have to admire the skill of the pilot! Stewart M
Jul 21, 2012 @ 08:33:59
It really does take someone with a lot of skill and nerves of steel!
Jul 21, 2012 @ 05:40:24
I spotted our local crop duster spraying our neighbor’s soybeans last week. I thought the same thing — kinda weird in this heat.
Jul 21, 2012 @ 08:34:29
I can see if it is for bugs, but there doesn’t seem to be a lot of reason to spray the fungicide. Oh well.
Jul 21, 2012 @ 07:22:50
Wonderful photos.
My entry.
Jul 21, 2012 @ 08:34:45
Thanks for stopping by.
Jul 21, 2012 @ 12:02:19
You illustrated this post so beautifully.
I’m so sorry to read about the hard drought that is plaguing so much of the continent. Whenever I read about it I think of your and your little farm and I wish for some sustained rain for you.
Jul 21, 2012 @ 12:33:31
We do appreciate it. I am actually better off than many. I just keep reminding myself how lucky I am to still have a chance for a harvest and that I can still provide for my animals.
Jul 21, 2012 @ 17:29:21
The sky is falling! Run and tell the king!
Jul 21, 2012 @ 19:36:59
Ha! Ha! That’s exactly how they act!
Jul 21, 2012 @ 17:59:36
I’m with TWG, hard to believe it’s been a year already since you last showed us pictures of the crop dusters! These today are GREAT!!
Millie does look like she wants you to “make it go away!”
Jul 21, 2012 @ 19:37:41
I am amazed that some of you have been around that long! Goodness, I’m going to have to find something new to talk about.
Jul 21, 2012 @ 22:35:11
Great shots. The crop duster here has an Ag Cat and sometimes comes right over our yard as he goes in for a landing at the airport. I love to watch that plane.
Jul 22, 2012 @ 08:25:01
My farm is in his way, and he has to go around all my buildings and trees, and he circles right over sometimes. It is fun to watch, but I wouldn’t want to be in that plane!
Jul 22, 2012 @ 00:06:26
Beautifully captured! Have a great weekend.
My Loyal companion Pet, come and see.
Jul 22, 2012 @ 08:25:59
Thank you. Hope you enjoy your weekend as well.
