I’ve been watching beautiful butterflies fluttering all about. There’s been a yellow swallowtail in my yard every day for the last week or so. Monarchs are all over. I just can’t get them to sit still for me. Today, I decided to chase them down.
I wasn’t really running after them. I was only chasing them with my camera.
Do you suppose it’s possible to ever get one in focus while it’s flying?
At least it was in front of the rustic old fence.
Almost. If only the grass wasn’t in the way.
Finally!
Thank you little butterfly. Maybe next time I’ll actually get one to open those beautiful wings for me.

so nice of them to lure you into the fence photos.
Jul 19, 2012 @ 18:00:49
It did work out well! I had no idea of what to do for a fence today.

It was one of the best things to do on such a hot day.
Jul 19, 2012 @ 17:45:47
Well your chasing them down worked. You got some nice pictures.
Jul 19, 2012 @ 18:01:38
Thanks. It was a nice way to pass the hot afternoon.
Jul 19, 2012 @ 17:45:55
Oh aren’t they just lovely!
Jul 19, 2012 @ 18:01:51
I do love the butterflies!
Jul 19, 2012 @ 17:49:34
Enjoyed the chase. Glad to see you succeeded in running one down!
Jul 19, 2012 @ 18:02:22
I think it just got tired and decided it might as well give up and rest on the maple tree.
Jul 19, 2012 @ 18:09:40
what great shots. i love butterflies. so great!! (:
Jul 19, 2012 @ 18:11:39
Thanks. They have been very elusive this summer!
Jul 19, 2012 @ 19:00:14
Great capture of the butterfly in mid air!
Jul 19, 2012 @ 20:04:20
Thanks. It was fun!
Jul 19, 2012 @ 19:19:08
At least you got some shots of the illusive butterfly…I am just not seeing any to even attempt to shoot.
And I like that fence, too.
Jul 19, 2012 @ 20:04:46
Such a shame you aren’t seeing them. I am just having a hard time getting them to sit still.
Jul 19, 2012 @ 19:38:11
Those things are quite a challenge to capture! I had fun watching you chase it around. Cute! I find the yellow ones and white ones hardly ever light on anything. So frustrating.
Jul 19, 2012 @ 20:05:16
I think they are having a hard time finding nice flowers to land on this year. Everything is drying up.
Jul 19, 2012 @ 19:46:20
You got some nice shots!
Jul 19, 2012 @ 20:05:49
Thanks. Nothing else I’d rather do on such a hot day, except maybe blow some bubbles…Hmmmm….
Jul 19, 2012 @ 22:13:55
I so know the feeling. I spend a lot of time running around after butterflies. I never seem to catch them the way you did. Great shots. I felt like I was right there with you.
Jul 19, 2012 @ 22:21:53
I just don’t understand why they won’t sit still for me!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 08:51:18
So many Monarchs!
Here it’s dragonflies this season for some reason.
Love the pic of the little guy coming in for a landing!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 08:52:52
We’re too dry to have many dragonflies this year. I usually see lots of them in the Back Forty, but not this year.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 13:00:37
It looks as though you had a wonderful time ‘chasing’ them – and you did end up with some lovely shots.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 13:07:01
Thanks. It was a great relaxing way to spend some time.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 15:09:57
Well he slowed down for you after all! Great captures!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 15:54:42
I think I finally just outlasted the little guy.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 15:52:03

Like you I have been fusterated at those wings!! I take gobs of pictures of butterflies and it’s impossible to catch one still. But, you did it!! Great job.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 16:10:01
If you stand in the waterway of a cornfield with a lot of thistles long enough, you’re bound to get lucky.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 16:14:41
i JUST SMILED THE WHOLE WAY THROUGH THIS POST!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 16:47:34
So glad we put a smile on your face!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 18:13:38
There is a place in Santa Cruz, CA where the Monarchs go to stay for the winter. It is just awesome to see them all hanging in the Eucalyptus leaves looking like so many dead leaves. Just thousands of them. They are truly beautiful creatures. Great shots!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 21:09:31
Every so often, we’ll get thousands that stop and spend the night in one of the trees here. It is amazing to see so many of them all together like that.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 18:46:48
He was considerate to fly in front of the fence for you and I love the captures in midair!
Jul 20, 2012 @ 21:10:23
I do appreciate his/her considerate nature. I had no idea what I was going to do for Friday’s Fences until I started chasing butterflies.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 20:03:10
I love butterflies they are so graceful and beautiful.
Jul 20, 2012 @ 21:12:24
They are wonderful to watch. Nothing better~well, except maybe watching goat kids.
Jul 21, 2012 @ 00:01:57
You did an awesome job! I never can catch them when I see them around here! Love the 3rd and 5th photos the most….and of course that wonderful fence!
Jul 21, 2012 @ 08:33:06
Thanks. It was fun to just try and follow. Boy do they flit quickly!
