I keep reading about how our weird weather has Nature all confused. Today, I have my own example of how the overly warm temperatures are affecting the animals here.
My peacock seems confused. He’s growing out his tail feathers just they way he is supposed to.
I love those beautiful eyes and fringes.
After losing them all at the end of August, they’ve completely grown back out.
Does she look impressed with his tail?
This is what I expect from the peafowl this time of year~just hanging out.
For some reason, he decided to start dancing for the girls today.
He usually isn’t interested in attracting their attention until the end of March or April.
He was certainly fluttering those wings
and shaking those long tail feathers.
Early or not, he is beautiful!
I just hope they don’t try to lay eggs and sit on a nest already.

he’s a gorgeous boy! our songbirds here in texas are already singing their mating songs – at least a month too early…
Jan 29, 2012 @ 18:48:55
I guess I won’t complain too much about him dancing because he is gorgeous! I can always steal eggs to keep the girls from sitting if I have to.
Jan 29, 2012 @ 18:32:18
Oh dear! It’s way too early for him to be thinking what we think he’s thinking.
Jan 29, 2012 @ 18:49:39
He’s a guy. I think he’s thinking about it from the time his tail feathers start growing in. He just doesn’t usually act on those thoughts this early.
Jan 29, 2012 @ 18:38:09
He is gorgeous! What great close-up shots you got!
Jan 29, 2012 @ 18:50:14
He was so busy dancing and watching the girls I could have gone up and played with his fuzzy tail feathers (which I admit I have done before~so soft).
Jan 29, 2012 @ 18:40:05
Oh my, he is truly, truly a handsome fella!
I sure hope they don’t start trying to “nest up” too soon!
Jan 29, 2012 @ 18:50:36
Hopefully the girls will have more sense than that. If not, I’ll steal the eggs for a while.
Jan 29, 2012 @ 19:10:51
But if they do I would be happy!
Jan 29, 2012 @ 19:43:37
Later in the summer we’ll see if they can hatch some for you.
Jan 29, 2012 @ 19:20:01
Aren’t they magnificent, whatever pose they strike.
And your photos do them justice.
What a treat.
Jan 29, 2012 @ 19:44:03
Thanks. They are so beautiful.
Jan 29, 2012 @ 20:48:16
What a fun blast of color on your little hill top!
Jan 29, 2012 @ 20:54:18
He does certainly stand out against the browns we’ve had this winter.
Jan 29, 2012 @ 21:02:52
He’s gorgeous! Once I got pecked by a female peacock in a bird park here, when I came too close to photograph it, good thing she didn’t chase after me, when we both went in different direction after I screamed!! kekekke
Jan 29, 2012 @ 21:33:15
They are attracted to shiny things~rings, cameras, etc. They are beautiful, but not too smart. Mine usually just try to avoid people.
Jan 29, 2012 @ 22:27:41
So beautiful!
Happy Macro Monday!

What a splendid bird he is! Great pictures.

Jan 30, 2012 @ 06:10:45
Thanks. I do enjoy watching him dance for the ladies.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 04:55:38
So gorgeous! An awesome display and you captured all of the action perfectly.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 06:11:15
Thanks. It’s not always easy to catch him without shadows all across the tail.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 06:10:16
Gorgeous pictures! He is such a pretty boy.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 06:20:15
Thanks. He is handsome, but I still miss my white male.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 06:50:22
Stunning pictures. What a magnificent bird!
Jan 30, 2012 @ 07:14:03
Thanks!

Crazy. We saw a flock of Robins here in NH last week… not sure if they’re early returns or late departures. A ruffed grouse was displaying for a female on our front lawn – in the snow. And a friend’s heritage turkeys are all in full strut as well.
Wondering if/when Winter’s other shoe will hit – I think our last big snowstorm in 2011 was April 1st.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 08:36:07
That’s kind of what I’m thinking~it’s just going to be late.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 08:31:43
Gorgeous!!! He is just gorgeous!
With luck this will post :O)
Jan 30, 2012 @ 08:35:20
Still having problems~bummer. He is beautiful.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 09:48:26
He’s really beautiful!
Jan 30, 2012 @ 09:55:11
I think so too.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 10:16:45
I’m sorry, but I just had to laugh at that first back shot. He is so magnificent and then you see those skinny white legs that look like an old man with long socks on.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 10:25:41
They do look funny from the back. That’s probably why you don’t see many pictures from that angle.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 12:19:47
Stunning bird and fabulous photo’s of him. Thank you for sharing.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 13:01:43
Thanks. They certainly do catch the eye when they are showing off those tail feathers.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 17:03:03
He sure can strut his stuff. Early or not, that’s quite a display.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 17:10:50
This is his first year to have all of his tail feathers in their full glory, so I’m really enjoying it. Thanks for stopping by.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 17:18:12
Absolutely stunning!
I think the shot from behind is phenomenal, such a great picture,I have not seen such a good rear perspective, loving his wings in the picture, never realized they had brown on them.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 17:31:10
Thank you. I love the back side~those fuzzy butt feathers just amaze me. The wing color will vary depending on what variety of peafowl it is. They really have a whole rainbow of colors.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 21:00:35
What gorgeous colors he has!
Jan 30, 2012 @ 21:34:55
He has so many different colors, and they are all very rich. I’m afraid my pictures can’t do them justice.
Jan 30, 2012 @ 22:14:50
So beautiful! I have wanted to raise peacocks for so long….we are moving to 10 acres in a couple weeks hopefully soon after I can get a pair!! Beautiful pictures!
Jan 30, 2012 @ 22:16:19
They are beautiful. I don’t even mind their yells.
Jan 31, 2012 @ 09:24:04
If I could train them to sit quite still they would make perfect hats!
Jan 31, 2012 @ 09:27:03
I can just picture him perched on top of you head with the tail trailing down your back. It would be great until the great plop down your backside.
Jan 31, 2012 @ 10:11:35
Oh wow! Just glorious. If the pea hens aren’t impressed, they just don’t appreciate him enough.
Jan 31, 2012 @ 10:27:16
I think they’re still in ignore him mode. I’m sure they’ll appreciate him more when it’s actually spring.
Jan 31, 2012 @ 18:46:46
Such a beautiful creature!
My mother always told me that a robin is the first sign of spring. A couple of weeks ago, I saw one on my fence. A few days later, I saw about 15 of them snacking on some bushes while I was out and about! What a strange winter this has been!
Jan 31, 2012 @ 18:54:38
It has been strange. I do have the feeling we’re going to still be in for some bad weather yet.
