Chore Troubles

I hate to admit it, but I sometimes worry when I don’t know what my blog post is going to be about.  Today, I was even more worried because I left work late, had to get gas, and it’s Friday’s Fences.  How on earth would I be able to figure out a post with fences.  My fences all look a lot alike, and I’m sure it has to get boring.  Luckily I have lots of cute animals to include with my boring fences.  I needn’t have worried because when I went out to do chores, the first thing that got my attention was Minnie coming to greet me~on the wrong side of the barnyard.

Minnie Pearl Saanen

Well, I went and checked my “fence” between the two sides.  Usually, the door below is open, but I have some girls I don’t want on the same side as Boeris.  I wired the cattle panel across the doorway, but I’m guessing someone caught a horn and broke my wire.  It was loose on the right hand side.

Boeris is a boy, and some of the girls should not be near him because they do not need to have kids.

Boeris van deYell

Of course, those are the girls that were on the wrong side.  After putting Minnie back where she belonged, I found Cookie and Casey on the wrong side.  I returned them to where they belong, but they were back out before I was.  I grabbed my wire and cutters and refastened the panel.  Then Cookie stayed where she belongs and was happy eating with her maa, Scarlet.

Cookie Blackboer and Scarlet O'Boera

Casey was a sassy guy, “Would ya leave me alone?  I’m eatin’ here.”  I have to say I really love this little stinker.

Then I discovered Stormy.  I hadn’t seen her before.  I’m not sure if she had been out all along or if she followed Casey and Cookie as they came out the second time.

Stormy Sue Street

Stormy and I were walking through the chicken pen and barn because that’s the only way in there since I wired the panel back in place.  Suddenly, Naughty Rooster Boy decided to attack.  Now, I try to be minimal in catching him as he attacks and just meeting him with my foot so he falls down.  My aim has been off.  I feel bad because I’ve ended up kicking him when I miss.  Tonight, I missed catching him.  It was probably because I was leading Stormy who was in a panic because she’s very shy and nervous and I was yelling, “Stop it!  Get away! Leave me alone!”

Very Naughty Rooster Boy

Anyhow, I missed and he got me.  He even drew blood. Dang NAUGHTY rooster.  It wasn’t a mortal wound, though, so I continued through the building and returned Stormy to her proper side.  Then I saw Sallie.  She was supposed to be with Boeris.  I grabbed her and back through the chicken building we went.  I must say, I did take a small wicked delight when out of the corner of my eye I saw the big colorful peacock bounce on top of Naughty Rooster Boy.

Ordinarily I frown on such behavior.  I much prefer inter-species friendships, but tonight, I felt a little wicked glee at the sight.  He might not be a knight in shining armor, but for tonight he was my hero.  Plus he’s colorful, which is this week’s theme for You Capture.

Finally I got chores finished and everyone was kind of settling down, so I got my camera and started taking pictures (using my new flash).  Sallie looks a bit disappointed that I fixed the fence.

Now why on earth was I worried about finding something to post for Farmgirl Friday?  No problems.

When people talk about not know what to post about, I just smile. There are some things I planned to post about, but they keep getting pushed back.

Isn’t technology great when it works! I’ve been swearing at my Internet off and on for a few months and am thinking about changing providers. I don’t know if it would help, but I think it should.

I’m pretty sure that there is always something going on in the farmyard at your place. I got a kick out of your need for 5 arms and 5 legs to get all those critters back where they belong. I love Millie – she is such a lady.

With a barn yard full of animals, I don’t think you would ever run out of posts. So…do I need a peacock to protect me from my rooster who goes out of his way every chance he gets to attack me? It is kind of a tempting idea!

Thanks. They usually are pretty well behaved. I usually figure it’s my fault for forgetting to wire it more tightly or something when they get out.

I just hope I can make it another month or so until spring really is close and it will be easier for the young roosters to free range.
