A Day Late

I did go for a walk in the pasture yesterday and take pictures for the First of the Month, hosted by Murrieta 365.  I just didn’t get them posted, so here they are today.

We had beautiful blue skies with lots of sunshine!  I must say the big cottonwood tree itself doesn’t look much different than it did a month ago.

I can still see the great  horned owl’s nest, but there is a big difference there.  I still haven’t seen the mother owl, but her two babies really make for a full nest!  They’ve already changed so much in the last week, it’s unbelievable.  Instead of big fuzzballs, they are starting to get their adult colors and markings.

I must say, trying to take a picture of something sitting in the top of a tree in wild winds is not the easiest.  Hopefully, we’ll get a calmer day to go with our blue skies.  Then it would be perfect!

My little pool of water in the drainage ditch is a bit more full than last month.  I’m sure that’s because of the recent rains we’ve had.  I must say the green grass is a nice change from brown and dead.

Along with the green grass, I’m seeing so many bright splashes of yellow!  Dandelions might be a weed to most people, but they are very cheerful.

Another change besides the grass and dandelions is the sounds of the pasture.  First, I’m not huffing and puffing up a storm since I’ve been walking so much more.  There are more birds singing, and I’m greeted with a chorus of frogs!  I’m guessing this little swampy pool is their home because it got very quiet when I came near it.  I couldn’t see a single one!

Along with many remains of last year’s Queen Anne’s Lace, I found some new ones coming up.  They look like little carrots because they are related.

Finally, the windmill.  I still love stopping and looking at it every time I go by.  It’s a reminder of days past when it was the only source of water for the farm.  I still want to fill in the well beneath and clean up the junk around it.  Eventually, I’d like to get rid of the electric line right beside it too.

Well, that’s my first of the month walk for May.  Below is the cottonwood tree photos for March, April and May.  Do you think it will ever get leaves?
